Water is essential to a verdant and thriving landscape— however using too much can be detrimental and wastes a precious resource. As experienced gardeners ourselves, we have a deep understanding of the water needs of different plants, and how to install an irrigation system in a way that is durable, effective, and low maintenance.

We install highly efficient new systems, with options for Wifi smart controllers, smart water meters that send leak alerts, and simple surface components that often only require one type of repair part to be kept on site.

We also specialize in retrofitting and updating old inefficient irrigation systems. We can convert ineffective sprinklers to drip irrigation, add water meters to quantify use, and update to Wifi smart controllers. Often this can be done without needing to re-dig and disturb the landscaping.

A well designed landscape starts with well defined goals. Goals may be rehabilitating the soil post construction and tying the building back into the surrounding landscape. Or could be creating a backyard oasis with shaded arbor spaces, “rooms” for gatherings, fruit to pick, and flowers to enjoy. Or perhaps it is refreshing an existing landscaping by pruning overgrown shrubs and trees and adding new plants for a fresh look.

We combine your goals with the specifics of your site (sun/shade, deer pressure, water availability, etc) to create a landscape that is quick to establish and matches your desired level of maintenance.

We are available for “walk and talk” consultations to help brainstorm and troubleshoot on a variety of topics for Landscape, Garden, and Orchards— including plant identification, disease diagnosis, fruit pollination issues, choosing the “right plant for the right place,” maintenance strategies, improving vegetable gardens, and much more.

From start to finish, we can install an orchard of any size- from fencing to tree planting and irrigation. Having established dozens of orchards on Orcas, we know the varieties that do well in the San Juans and the tricks to get trees to establish fast and quickly producing fruit.

From raised beds to large in-ground plots, we can help install the right sized vegetable garden for your property. As avid gardeners ourselves, we love to help other people grow their own vegetables.

In the San Juans, if you want to consistently harvest your own berries and cherries, they need to be protected from the birds. We build both permanent and seasonally erected berry cages that are ergonomic to use and effective at protecting your crop!

We build deer and livestock fences from a variety of materials from budget friendly T stakes to custom split cedar work. From large orchards, to conservation restoration projects, to postage stamp backyard gardens, we have done it all.

Have a fruit tree that produces too much of one type, or isn’t very good? We can “topwork” graft an existing fruit tree and change it into your desired variety. Often, we graft 3-4 different varieties in the same tree to provide diversity and spread out the harvest.
